The Man In The Field Riddle

A man is lying in the middle of a field dead. He has an unopened package with him. As he had approached the center of the field he had known that he was going to die when he reached the center. How could he know this and what was in the package? NOTE: No the package was NOT a bomb. That is what almost everyone guesses at first so get that out of your head now.
