Surgery Riddle

A man and his son were driving one day until they were struck by a drunk driver. The father was killed instantly but the child was still alive but needs surgery right away. He was rushed to the hospital and put into the ER. The surgen entered and said I cant operate on this boy... he is my son. How is this possible?
