2 Km Bridge Riddle

There was an old bridge.It was 2 km.the maximum capacity it could hold 5000 kgso only one car could go at a time.One day a car with full petrol weighed exact 5000 kg.Now even a bit of stone of 1 g falls on the bridge will break. When the car finished 1 km 3 kg bird came and sat on the bridge did not break?????Why???
