10th Floor Riddle

A man lives on the 10th floor of his apartment building. Every day when he leaves for work he takes the elevator to the 1st floor. When he comes back from work he takes the elevator to the 7th floor and walks up the stairs the rest of the way to the 10th floor. Why does he stop at the 7th floor on his way back home?
